Operational sequence

  1. Identify which behavior or phrase triggered the inference.
  2. Check translation, register, honorific, naming order, and local institutional practice.
  3. Consult more than one relevant source or reviewer when the consequence is serious.
  4. Separate cultural context from stereotype and individual choice.
  5. Record what remains uncertain after review.
