Repeated threat exposure can keep attention oriented toward danger. That can support detection in some contexts while increasing fatigue, false alarms, irritability, and difficulty disengaging.

Cover, secrecy, conflicting loyalties, and repeated role performance can create tension between public self, private self, and operational self. Identity strain does not imply multiple personalities or inevitable breakdown.

Distress may follow actions, failures to act, betrayal by leaders, or perceived violation of deeply held values. It is not proof of misconduct and is not reducible to fear-based trauma.

Trust can be domain-specific and directional. A person may trust another with safety but not information, or disclose facts while withholding motives. Disclosure thresholds change with context and state.
