Write disconfirming questions before collecting evidence. Ask which premise could fail, which actor lacks capacity, which signal is non-specific, and which response could interrupt the path.

The same indicator can reflect routine volatility, seasonal change, defensive testing, reporting shifts, policy debate, or an unrelated crisis. Alternatives must be evaluated against the same evidence.

A branch can be retired because its premise was contradicted, its source became stale, its indicators became unsafe, or its causal path was interrupted. Preserve the prior version and rationale.
