One-sentence brief
When labels jump unpredictably or selections disappear, readers lose the relationship between evidence and place. Deterministic behavior makes a complex interface inspectable and shareable.
WORLD EVENT LITERACY
Interaction rules for keeping selected entities, labels, connectors, and evidence stable as a user pans, zooms, rotates, or changes views.
ORIENTATION
When labels jump unpredictably or selections disappear, readers lose the relationship between evidence and place. Deterministic behavior makes a complex interface inspectable and shareable.
WORKING BRIEF
Every event, place, institution, person, and document needs a persistent ID. Selection state should follow that identity across map, timeline, table, and article views.
Use deterministic seeds, collision rules, safe areas, and bounded leader lines. During rapid movement, reduce label motion rather than allowing visible jitter.
Anchor lines to the nearest appropriate label edge and route geographic links over the surface rather than through the globe. Define what every edge represents.
At global scale show aggregate events and institutions; at regional scale reveal event clusters; at local scale reveal source records. Preserve a visible path from aggregate to child records.
Fade or summarize items behind the horizon, but keep active selections recoverable through off-screen indicators and a recenter control. Do not silently drop selected evidence.
Mirror canvas state in semantic HTML. Keyboard focus, screen-reader focus, and visual focus should identify the same entity, filters, and current view.
COMPLETE DOSSIER
Terms are defined for this site’s evidence method, not as universal legal or clinical definitions.
Can each consequential statement be traced to a dated source or clearly labeled interpretation?
Pass condition: Claims, interpretations, and unresolved gaps are visibly separated.
Does the presentation preserve dignity, agency, privacy, and the difference between institutions and populations?
Pass condition: People are not reduced to risk scores, spectacle, or aggregate stereotypes.
Can a changed source or finding be propagated to every derivative route?
Pass condition: The route has a visible review state, stable identifiers, and correction triggers.
