One-sentence brief
Reusable patterns can improve consistency, but a pattern must never replace evidence-specific design or turn human harm into a cinematic template.
WORLD EVENT LITERACY
A restrained pattern library for expansion, displacement, alliance, trade disruption, disaster, diplomatic travel, sanctions, infrastructure failure, information spread, resource depletion, conflict, and demographic change.
ORIENTATION
Reusable patterns can improve consistency, but a pattern must never replace evidence-specific design or turn human harm into a cinematic template.
WORKING BRIEF
Expansion, displacement, diplomatic travel, and information spread need origin, destination, time, volume, and uncertainty. Use restrained lines and avoid militarized arrows or laser effects.
Alliance and sanctions stories should show legal status, membership, enforcement, exceptions, and civilian effects. Neutral color and documentary context are often stronger than opposing blocs.
Trade and infrastructure failure need bottlenecks, capacity, alternative routes, repair estimates, and verified impact. A darkened map alone can exaggerate drama.
Disaster and resource depletion require observed versus modeled data, uncertainty gradients, timestamps, and static comparisons. Do not render photorealistic danger as if it were observation.
Conflict needs disputed-control and source labels; demographic change needs population-aware encodings rather than land-area dominance. No pattern may rank populations or infer collective intent.
Every pattern needs a static overview, chronological list, place or flow table, source panel, reduced-motion mode, and a reason the globe adds insight.
COMPLETE DOSSIER
Terms are defined for this site’s evidence method, not as universal legal or clinical definitions.
| Pattern family | Examples | Required safeguard |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Expansion, displacement, travel, information spread | Direction, volume, uncertainty, privacy, no militarized spectacle |
| Relationship | Alliance, sanctions | Legal status, exceptions, enforcement evidence, civilian impact |
| Disruption | Trade, infrastructure failure | Baseline capacity, alternatives, repair, verified impact |
| Environment | Disaster, resource depletion | Observed/model distinction, uncertainty, timestamp, static fallback |
| Conflict and demographic | Front lines, migration, voting, population change | Disputed sources, privacy, population-aware encoding, no collective-intent inference |
Can each consequential statement be traced to a dated source or clearly labeled interpretation?
Pass condition: Claims, interpretations, and unresolved gaps are visibly separated.
Does the presentation preserve dignity, agency, privacy, and the difference between institutions and populations?
Pass condition: People are not reduced to risk scores, spectacle, or aggregate stereotypes.
Can a changed source or finding be propagated to every derivative route?
Pass condition: The route has a visible review state, stable identifiers, and correction triggers.
