How this lens changes the investigation

A coherent narrative can still be temporally impossible. Normalize clocks to UTC, preserve uncertainty ranges, distinguish occurrence time from recording time, and test travel, processing, and reaction intervals.

Observable clues

  • Clock drift, timezone conversion, delayed synchronization, batch imports, and handwritten estimates.
  • Events recorded later than they occurred.
  • Travel or task durations that exceed the available interval.
  • Symptoms, fatigue, mood, medication, or operational pressure that changed before or after a disputed event.

Evidence tests

  1. Convert every timestamp to UTC while retaining the original value.
  2. Record earliest and latest plausible time when precision is uncertain.
  3. Distinguish event time, observation time, entry time, and export time.
  4. Reject hypotheses that require impossible overlap or unexplained speed.

Do not assume

  • Treating database insertion time as event time.

  • Assuming all clocks were synchronized.
